Requested by Francisco Javier Montes at Paper Replika Friends Facebook group, I made this NASA astronaut van (Astrovan) to fill a new space category model. The template is quite simple, contains only 2 sheet of paper. When it assembled you will have a nice 1:48 vehicle scale model. NASA used a classic Clark Cortez Couch as the crew transport. I don't know much about the real vehicle background, but from what I read in a photo caption from NASA website, it was used for transporting Apollo XIII astronauts to their rocket (April 1970). I also know from the movie Apollo 13, their mission was a failure, luckily they managed to get back to the earth from the moon orbit. Tom Hanks starred that movie. A good movie, I always love space and astronaut stuff.
Paper Replika
Life Size RPG-7 Launcher Paper Model
This model is a request from Paper Replika new Facebook group, Paper Replika Friends. On that group you can discuss about every model made by Paper Replika and also you can make suggestion or request of model that you like and want to be made as paper model pattern. Every request will still filter by me, and only approved requests will be made. This RPG-7 paper model template contains 30 pages of patterns. The scale is 1:1, so I also made its inner construction. The warhead can be detach but with simplified model. I recommend to use 200 gsm paper and thicker for its inner constructions. This Soviet portable unguided rocket missile is very popular heavy weapon among armed forces in many countries. Some countries copied its design or reproduce under license.
Easter Bunny Paper Craft
Just like Christmas 2012, I don't want to missed releasing a related paper craft model in Easter this year. So I prepare this pattern early, although Easter is still in March 31st. This paper craft patterns is a quick modeling, done in a day. I choose Easter Bunny because a very common symbol of Easter celebration and also a symbol festivity around Easter dates that widely accepted even for non Christian, just like Santa in Christmas. The symbol itself actually the eggs, that often carried by a rabbit, that is called an Easter Bunny. This template contains only 2 pages of patterns, you can choose which bunny eyes you're going to make or make them both.
WWII Tiger I Tank Paper Model
I made this model tank as a tribute to my fellow paper model designer as a hobby, Yudhi Kistyarto. His last work in progress was this Tiger tank as you can see on the screenshot below, that's his actual work on Tiger tank 3d model on Google Sketchup. He never got a chance to continue it, he passed away a year ago. I got this file from Christopher (Bamboogila Corner), Yudhi shared it to Chris for learning purpose, back then. When Chris informed me that he got Yudhi's file, suddenly I had an idea to continue Yudhi's work. I planned to make a simple Tiger, but apparently I can't help it to make it a little bit detail, so the final result is a semi detailed model. The scale is 1:35, not too big nor small, just right I think. I simplified the wheels, so the inner row wheels that are not visible are not modeled, just the visible parts. The tracks come in 2 options, detailed and simple, it's your call. Its turret is rotate-able, but its cannon angle is fixed on level position. I choose Tiger 131 from Bovington museum, United Kingdom as the color scheme, because that Tiger is the only Tiger I tank that still can be running today, the only one, so I think that's special. Other colored scheme also opened for the next projects when the master patterns is done.
Bombardier CRJ1000 Aircraft Paper Model
I think this is the first modern passenger aircraft ever made into paper model by Dani Hamdani from ZRP Papercrafter, he made a model of Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen. This 1:130 scale model comes with its display suspender included in the PDF file. The templates consist of 5 pages of patterns, 8 pages total with cover and assembly instructions. For better build result, Dani has made this patterns with inner glue tabs. The built model will have approximately 30 cm / 12 inches in length.
Paper Type for Paper-Modeling
Because of so many questions from beginners about paper type to use for paper modeling so I try to explain it in this article. The fact is, there is no such special paper for paper model. You can use any kind of paper that available on you, however every paper type has its own plus and minus. When you are going to make a paper model you should know the size of the built model, large size will need more thicker paper than the smaller one. Also there are some paper that can be printed with home printer (inkjet printer) but some don't, it must be printed with laser, offset printer or digital printing.
